[What and Why:] SharePoint is adding support for HTML pages. Users will be able to create HTML pages with Copilot in SharePoint or upload HTML from another source. After an HTML page is stored in the Site Pages library, users can render it as a page in SharePoint, make additional edits, publish it, and share it with their audience. This gives organizations another way to present content alongside existing ASPX pages and helps users create polished web content more efficiently in SharePoint. [Rollout Schedule:] Public Preview: Rollout will begin in early October 2026 and is expected to complete in early October 2026. General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout will begin in mid-November 2026 and is expected to complete by late December 2026. [Impact on Your Organization:] Who is affected: SharePoint authors who create, upload, edit, publish, or share pages. Users with access to Copilot in SharePoint for HTML page creation and editing. Admins and support teams responsible for SharePoint authoring guidance and Copilot adoption. Platforms/Services: SharePoint Online Copilot in SharePoint Site Pages library What will happen: Users can create HTML pages in SharePoint by selecting + New on a SharePoint site and then selecting HTML page . Users can create an HTML page with Copilot from the floating Copilot button on a SharePoint site. Users can create an HTML page from the Publish landing page by selecting + Create and then HTML page . Users can describe the page they want in the prompt box and attach relevant files for additional context. Copilot can create a draft HTML page and open it in edit mode. Users can upload an existing .html file from the HTML page creation screen. Users can upload HTML pages or folders from the Site Pages library. Users can edit text directly on the page or use the Copilot chat pane for broader content and design changes. Published pages are visible to users who already have permission to view the page; publishing does not grant new permissions. The site-scoped Agent creation entry point will be removed from the + New menu on site pages. New agent creation remains available from the command bar of a document library or list and from the context menu of selected files in a document library. [Action Required/Recommendations:] No admin action is required before rollout. Before rollout, you may want to: Inform SharePoint authors about the new HTML page creation, upload, edit, publish, and sharing capabilities. Update internal SharePoint or Copilot guidance if your organization documents page authoring workflows. Review Copilot licensing assignments to confirm which users will have access to Copilot-assisted HTML page creation. Remind users that publishing an HTML page does not grant new permissions. Review: Create, upload, edit, and publish HTML pages in SharePoint . [Compliance considerations:] Does the change store new customer data, if so, where, and is the data cached or permanently stored? Yes. HTML pages created or uploaded by users are stored in the SharePoint Site Pages library according to existing SharePoint storage and retention behavior. Does the change alter how existing customer data is processed, stored, or accessed? Yes. Users can create, upload, edit, publish, and share HTML content as SharePoint pages. Existing SharePoint permissions determine who can access published pages. Does the change introduce or significantly modify AI/ML or agent capabilities that interact with or provide access to customer data? Yes. Copilot in SharePoint can generate or edit HTML page content based on user prompts and attached files that the user provides or is authorized to access. Does the change provide end users any new way of interacting with generative AI? Yes. Users can use Copilot in SharePoint to create and edit HTML pages through prompts. Does the change include an admin control and can it be controlled through Entra ID group membership? Yes. Access to Copilot-assisted HTML page creation depends on existing Copilot licensing, SharePoint permissions, and organizational controls for Copilot experiences.
