[What and why] Starting in mid-October 2026, Microsoft Purview will remove the pay-as-you-go (PAYG) billing requirement for inline collection and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies that protect supported interactions with unmanaged cloud apps in Microsoft Edge for Business. This change simplifies deployment and administration of inline protection in Edge for Business by removing the Azure billing subscription requirement for this specific scenario. Existing protection capabilities, policy behavior, and supported activities remain unchanged. This update changes the billing requirement previously announced in MC1154787 . The rollout will occur progressively. Until the change reaches your tenant, the existing pay-as-you-go requirement may still appear in the Microsoft Purview portal and policy cmdlets. [Rollout schedule] Worldwide: Beginning in mid-October 2026 and expected to complete in late October 2026 [Impact on your organization] Who is affected Organizations using Microsoft Purview collection policies or DLP policies to monitor and protect supported interactions with unmanaged cloud apps in Microsoft Edge for Business browser Platforms and services Microsoft Purview Microsoft Edge for Business Purview DLP Purview Collection Policies What will happen Existing collection and DLP policies for unmanaged apps in Edge will continue to work without modification. You do not need to migrate, recreate, or update these policies. Existing policy enforcement behavior will remain unchanged. Supported inline browser activities will continue to be protected. After rollout, an Azure subscription and pay-as-you-go billing configuration will no longer be required for this Edge for Business scenario. Billing prerequisite checks and related guidance will be removed from the Microsoft Purview portal and policy cmdlets when creating or editing applicable policies. Requests associated with supported interactions with unmanaged cloud apps in Microsoft Edge for Business will no longer incur charges through the In Transit Protection meter. This change does not expand supported apps, browsers, activities, licenses, devices, or cloud environments. This change does not affect Microsoft Purview Network Data Security or other Purview capabilities that continue to use pay-as-you-go billing.
